| On April 23, 2006, The Newtowne Players presented short skits to illustrate the need for people to be more aware of the environment, not only on Earth Day, but year round. Earth Day was held in Leonardtown Square from 12pm to 4pm. The first show, "Trees" was a drama about a human family hunting for a Christmas tree. The father and daughter debated between two trees - which would be better? A cute one or a strong handsome one? They chose to take both! Unknown to the family, the trees could talk and became upset about not being able to run. The second show, Artemis showed her father, Zeus, about the horrors that whales face when trapped by a zoo. Trying to be humane, the directors of the zoo wanted to put Artemis (dressed as a beluga whale) into a heated pool with a screaming water pump and no sunlight. |
